DEPUTY DIRECTOR
C.S. THORNTON
Following the departure of Staff Attorney Tina L. Izadi
in March of 2007, the ACLU of Oklahoma added C.S. "Chuck" Thornton to its
personnel roster. Izadi, who had worked for the affiliate since May of 2004
and handled much of the organization’s litigation, moved to a position with
the office of the Oklahoma Attorney General. Thornton began work at the
affiliate on April 16, 2007. His job title is ACLU of Oklahoma Foundation
Deputy Director.
"Chuck is not a stranger to our office and this organization," said
Executive Director
Joann Bell. “He has served as an office volunteer, board
president, delegate to the ACLU Biennial Conference and the affiliate’s
legal counsel. I’m glad to welcome him to our staff."
Born in Dallas, Thornton moved at an early age to Alva,
Oklahoma, and attended elementary and secondary schools there. Upon leaving
Alva after graduating Alva Senior High School, Thornton attended the
University of Oklahoma and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political
Science. He began volunteering with the affiliate after earning a law degree
from Oklahoma City University School of Law in 1994. Thornton is licensed to
practice in Oklahoma; the District of Columbia; the United States District
Courts for the Western, Northern and Eastern Districts of Oklahoma; the U.S.
Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit; and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Thornton is a lifetime member of both the American Civil Liberties Union and
the Oklahoma Rifle Association. He is also a Benefactor member of the
National Rifle Association.
