Constitutionality of Oklahoma City Municipal Sign Code

Almost two years ago, in McCraw v. City of Oklahoma, ACLU and its allies successfully challenged Oklahoma City’s anti-panhandling ordinance, which made it a crime to hold a sign or speak to fellow citizens from medians. A federal appeals court found that ban violated the First Amendment. Last week we asked OKC to repeal its unconstitutional ban on political and social signs on medians other parts of the public square.
